Mouth Ulcers

Mouth ulcers are small, painful lesions that develop in the mouth or at the base of the gums. Whilst they can heal on their own over 1-2 weeks, there are herbs long valued in traditional herbal practice for their soothing and comforting properties.

Anti-inflammatory herbs such as Marigold, Burdock and Plantain are historically associated with supporting comfort and calm in the mouth and gums.

Sage and Myrrh are antibacterial herbs that are well regarded in herbal tradition for their cleansing and protective properties when used as a mouthwash.

Myrrh is also potent analgesic that may support pain relief and wound healing whilst Chamomile is a mild analgesic that may calm inflamed nerve endings and soothe mucus membranes.

Steep the herbs for 2-5 minutes and allow to cool. Use as a mouthwash 2-3 times a day.
